yes, you may think that it's nothing to really worry about. i'm not. i'm curious as to why these things happen. as i'm falling asleep - in between awake and asleep - i hear voices. these voices are very much like if you were in a crowded room. these voices aren't always speaking english. there's usually a mix with english, arabic, german, french and i believe chinese. i only know a tiny bit of german and none of the others. i don't understand what the other voices are saying, but i can feel what they are trying to say - if that makes any sense.

in the last four months, i've been having these problems to where i'm hearing these voices. however - there is always a few voices i can detect as a person who i know. these people are my mother, mother-in-law, my brother, my husband and the last voice is the sound of my own voice in my head. when i hear these voices, they either call out my name, whisper "i love you", laugh, or sing to me. if any of you have suggestions, please let me know.

first off, to clarify, these people are not dead. my grandmother did die about 2.5 years ago however. my husband is in iraq. yes, mental disorders are high in my family as my brother is schitzophrenic and bi-polar. i'm 28 years old and the only thing i know that i have is an anxiety disorder (thanks to the military, haha) as well as a.d.d. i've had these things happen to me before - my best friend communicated to me as to where she was and what she was doing while at a party 100 miles away in much the same manner as these occurances. thing is, the person who calls my name is my mother-in-law. she is, well, she has dementia and does not know who i am and she rarely talks to me. she was the one who called me - only once - in my dream. of course i could add quite a few other occurances in here, but i'm sure some out there would attack it as though i'm crazy.

I may have a little insight...

I've experienced this kind of thing myself. I think you hit the nail on the head in the question, you're half asleep. Most people don't spend that long 'half asleep'. But certain medications can cause sleep disturbances, or other problems with sleep patterns, that could cause those effects. Or you might be special or something!

If you stay up for a couple of days you will experience those effects as well. Like I said, 'half asleep'.

I would talk to a doctor, because it's not a very comfortable way to sleep, and the problem could get worse.

I'm schizophrenic and hear voices they are strongest as in falling asleep like you but I do hear them other times throughout the day.
Auditory hallucination can be caused by numerous things it can be the symptoms of schizophrenia beginning to show but there are tons of other more likely things out there that will show these symptoms also such as bipolar and other psychosis related disorders, sometimes stress can bring on these things. I can assure you it seems very harmless, don't worry your self go see a doctor and let them evaluate you. Feel free to email me I have studied psychology a lot and know a lot of symptoms of things I can give you my humble opinion if I can ask you some questions but remember its just an opinion always take the doctors diagnosis more seriously.

I think the key there is that it happens as you are falling asleep. I don't know the actual terms, but there is a stage where you can still be aware of your enviroment, but dream at the same time... I think it happens if you're somewhat sleep deprived and you reach REM sleep faster than usual. It would explain why it seems so realistic.

Personally, something like that happens to me when I'm reading a book. I'm conscious of the room around me and everything but the story in the book changes and I'm reading something completely different to what the book actually is (sucks if it happens during a test)

Well if those people you described are dead then they are ghosts and are trying to get in touch with you. If they are not dead they could be thinking these things and you are picking up on their thoughts and if that is not the case you are having fears or concerns about these people and they are racing in your head. When you lay down at night you are more in tune with your mind and it is going off. Try chanting The Hare Krishna Maha Mantra (The Great mantra for deliverance from suffering and Illusion) go to krishnaculture. Read Bhagavad Gita as it is for details on the mind and consciousness and Ghosts etc.

If it only happens when you're dropping off to sleep, then it sounds like your dreams are intruding on your awake mind. You may be prematurely slipping into a REM state before you're completely asleep. You may want to contact a sleep-disorder clinic and have it checked out.

When a person is sleeping or in his way to sleep sometimes he or she can hear these voices as a person is very stressed and depressed and working in a crowded places. I encourge you to see a psychologist as soon as you can.

Studies have shown that the voices we hear "inside" our heads are in fact our own voice. Perhaps you think you're hearing familiar voices, but most likely you're imitating their voices.

wow. i think you need to look at ur life and see if there are anythings u have problems with or need to solve. it is proven that you make dreams to solve problems in your life. maybe try counseling, or talk to someone who is a dream professional or something. if you've been having that dream for this long, it definatley means something.
