I don't know how far long I am, haven't had an ultrasound or anything but I got my results back from my blood test yesterday, it was 3448. Going by that and your pregnancy experience, how far long do you think that is??? Also, if you know a good website with that chart on there that would be great!!! Thanks!!!

There is a tremendous range of "normal hcg levels" in pregnancy, and a single hcg reading really doesn't tell you much and cannot be used to date a pregnancy other than in the broadest terms, and that's only an estimate. With an hcg level of 3448 something would be visible on ultrasound, and that is the best way to date the pregnancy and arrive at an estimated due date.

To give you an idea of the range of hcg levels...in a healthy singleton pregnancy at 6 weeks gestation (which would be 6 weeks from your last menstrual period), hcg levels can range from 1,080 to 56,500 -- quite a range! (You can find that number on a chart at INCIID's website, the International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination; those same figures are also given by other sources.) At 5 weeks the range is 19 to 7,340. So if you were to estimate how far along you are based on just the one hcg reading and without an ultrasound, I'd say you're somewhere between 4 weeks and 7 weeks.

A good place to look to get a feel for the range of hcg levels in healthy pregnancies is the betabase, at http://www.betabase.info/ -- women post their hcg numbers there for both singleton and multiple pregnancies. You can also find the charts with the numbers I provided at http://www.inciid.org/article.php?cat=newlypreg&id=241 and http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/1483/hcg.html.

If you're uncertain about your dates you should have an ultrasound as soon as possible so your doctor can date your pregnancy; dating by ultrasound is most accurate early on, and becomes less accurate later.

Best of luck.
