I'm in a band that just recently formed. We usually practice in each other's garages, but we can't play as loud as we need to without annoying neighbors. We need a place to practice where we can play fairly loud. Where do you guys practice? Do you have any suggestions?

I've been in bands for years. Practice is for getting tight, learning ques, stops, starts, etc. Everything you should be working on at practice can be done just as easily at lower volume levels, (and you won't have to worry about frying expensive gear that you need for paying gigs). Plus you will be able to talk and discuss problem areas with each other without having to constantly scream into a microphone at the lead player to "Knock it off we're trying to talk."
If you can sound tight at low volume, you'll sound awesome on stage cranked up. I've been in my share of bands where everyone had to be cranked to the hilt all the time. Massive volume is a great cover up for sloppy, bad, unprofessional, wannabe, musicianship. It just depends what kind of band you want to be a part of.

My friends and i talked to our principal and she lets us practice in the band room at our school... its usually soundproof. Another good place would be in ur basement.

Basment if available, it's underground so the only people you need to worry about are those upstairs.
