I can see it now, the Giants struggle next year w/o Tiki. They finally fire Coughlin, then Cowher comes back after a year off to coach the Giants... that's my crystal ball prediction, what do ya think?

Sounds like it could be possible. I don't know anything about Cowher's personal business obviously, but from a football standpoint it would makesense. A big market team would wanna make a splash w/ a big name coach. i think Bill will go nuts watching FB next year and not coaching! We'll see, good thought provoking question!

Steeler fan, I knew in May 2006 that Cowher was Quitting
The person who told me that then I though was nuts . You
dont quit at 49 years old with as good a team as he has .after
winning the Super Bowl. This person lives in Crafton, Pa
where Cowher lives A friend of his wife cleans his house
Scoop.. his wife was living in his 2.5 million dollar home in
Raleigh N. C. with his 10 grade daughter she is attending high school there . His wife gave him an ultimatum
football or her . He Quit. She will be in 11grade next year
and she is a basketball star , he also has two other daughters
playing basketball at Princeton U His wife was a pro
basketball player. I dont think the Steelers would take him
back after a two year or so hiatus, they would not go for
an inter min coach that's the way they are, I also understand
He wants to be the highest paid coach in the NFL so
after two or three years He will be on the Bidding blocks.
He still is under contract to the Steelers for 2007
Under NFL rules for 2007 the team that got him would have
to compensate them Draft choices Money Etc.
He will not do that I expect him coaching again in 2010
He has evolved into being the best coach in football now
bar none. Nobody handles players like he does and every
last one of them really loves him ..Joey Porter and I cried
when he quit.plus half of Pittsburgh

I think you may be on to something. I found it very suprising that Coughlin received a 1 year extension after his team underacheived yet again. Cowher is technically still under contract with the Steelers for another year. Under the law, while the Rooneys couldn't force him to coach the next year, they could prevent him from coaching for another team. I wouldn't be suprised if they extended Coughlin with the belief that they would land Cowher after his year hiatus was up.

I'd say next year would be even more of a disaster than this year, but that's a tough call. Jacobs is a beast; the Giants running game will be fine. I'd be more worried about Eli. Flashes of brillance won't be enough to keep fans happy. He's a tremendous talent, he just needs a better coach. I think players know that Coughlin is finished in NY. He's going to have a difficult time as a lame duck coach.

Who knows, they could get their sh#t together by next season.

Thats the only reason they kept Coughlin on now - better to keep continuity and rebuild next year at RB, and go after Cowher when he comes back, than commit to a multi-year contract with the weak candidate pool for head coach this year.

My magic 8 ball says:

Dallas Cowboys
Here is how it happens: A Bill Parcells lead Cowboys team will go 10-6 and be a wildcard team in 2007. They will lose in the NFC Championship and Parcells retires...again
Cowher seizes the opportunity to coach "Americas team" what else would he come back to do?

Highly unlikely. Cowher walked away so he could spend more time with his family. I can picture him returning to coaching eventually, but not the year after next, and not with the Giants.

I'm not sure it will happen that way. My thinking is that Cowher will eventually return to coaching, but he will want to take more than one year off. Whenever he does come back, he will choose the job he wants rather than the job choosing him.

i think anythings possible, when cowher decides to come back there are gonna be a lot of coaches that have to watch there jobs, he's a great coach and everyone knows that, and there are very few teams that wouldn't want him there.
