my mom just made a stupid new rule that i can't stay up till 2 or 3am anymore. and she said i have to be in bed at 11. i can't even fall asleep at that time. im tired at that time but my body just can't fall asleep. i feel like a baby going to bed at 11, how can i convince her to go to bed later. like last nite i stayed up wacthing laguna beach for an hour, on my ipod video cause i couldn't fall asleep.wat would make her want to change it back to later.cause there is no way i can fall asleep at 11. im 13 almost 14 if that matters any.

Your idea of bedtime is insane. A 13yo should be in bed and asleep by 10:30 at the latest. If required you need to have your Mom take you to the doctor to work on your sleep issues. You will NEVER do well in school until you get a "normal" schedule of sleep. Your body "can't " go to sleep because you keep it going with an iPod and probably a dozen other things. Girl, rethink this.

It is not a sign of being an adult staying up late. Adults actually have to get up at a certain hour, so SMART adults go to bed early to be able to function at work the next day.
After a while your body will get used to the new bed time, and it will be better for you in the long run. you will even be able to STAY AWAKE during school.

I am 25. I go to bed at 11... I cant wake up & do my daily tasks if I stay up much later... You could try reading at night, that can put me right to sleep, or try getting up earlier. Maybe if you were using your time more responsibly she would let you stay up later to finish homework, or read or clean your room. If you are just watching TV, trust me its better to get the sleep. It will help you grow, too. There will be plenty of time when you are older to stay up late, for good reasons. Not just 'cause you can't fall asleep.

Ok im 15 and i go to bed at 11pm. I get up at 6am for high school and im still tired.just listen to her because tenns need at least 8-10 hours of sleep. My parents dont care when i go to bed i just fall asleep watching tv around 11pm everyday except weekends where i stay up later. You are no the only one but its nice and good to have a good nights sleep. Belive me i havent had a good night sleep and im wiped. You will get used to it and fall asleep.

If you are falling asleep in all those classes, maybe your bedtime should be 9 instead of 11. Your body will eventually become accustomed to sleeping at earlier hours.

Teenagers are noted for operating on a sleep deficit.
Your mom's right. 11:00 is plenty late for a young teenager. Get some exercise in the late afternoon and then take a warm, relaxing bath before bedtime. Then try reading until you get sleepy. It will take you awhile to get in the habit, since you have been staying up "til all hours".

Is it just for when you have school the next day? Because if so, you shouldn't stay up til 2 or 3 when you have school the next day. Or you'll find yourself asleep in class. Personally it seems pretty reasonable the time she set for you to go to sleep. But if you're having problems you could try listening to music when laying down. It always helps me go to sleep.

I think that's fair.
you may think what i just said was a pain, and you don't want to look at it, and I'm just trying to be like the other answerers.
but...
in order to do good in school, you can't be tired. at least TRY to fall asleep then. You won't be so tired in school. taying past midnight on school days is not going to make anyone cool, and going to bed at 11 shouldn't make you feel like a baby either.
well, good luck.
