I give my hamsters toliet paper rolls all the time, they love them. I also have degus who have shelves made of cardboard or the plastic covered stuff that they use for ad signs. They chew it up and nothing ever seems to kill them

Hamsters LOVE to chew through almost anything even cardboard.
It is a great activity to pass time and also to grind their teeth.
Hamsters' teeth are ever growing so they nid to tear away their teeth or overgrown teeth will cause problems to them.
Another reason I could think of is hamsters chewing cardboard and using the torn pieces to build nest for themselves to sleep in. Pretty smart ^^

Yes chewing on cardboard and other objects is perfectly normal for hamsters. Just make sure that any objects you give them are free of chemicals and safe for your hamster.
I gave my hamsters toilet paper rolls, which they loved to chew as well as their wooden chew blocks. Plus it is fun for them to play with because they can run through it, sleep inside, and push it around for their amusement!

I dont know. Too much might be bad but toilet paper rolls are fine. wood would be better thouh. The have special wood sticks at the store 4 hamsters

it's perfectly normal. I have gerbils and I give them cardboard all the time. They love it! Anyway why waste money on buying a toy when you can use card board!

yes it's ok - my hamsters love toilet papers - use it as bedding - they seem to love it!
