Anything the south border put in magazines, ads or in TV (and almost everything is useless from the intelectual point) to sell and make their industry richier; next day the "Jeunesse Doree" and after the not so privileged ones rush to the stores to buy it.
Young people here listen to tasteless gang music, they dress with those horrible big pants falling off their waist, girls show off their underware (tacky), they watch in their cables stupidity, nonsense and violence from the south border and they really think that's cool.
They like a rich famous young woman like she was a Godess and maybe she does not even know where Canada is.
Is it because a lack of Canadian idols and more cultural options or maybe because the materialism of the ill empire is everything that they know and like?
Point out some good examples of Canadian good culture, music and art, because Canada is far above the empty materialism that comes from the empire that will fall some day.
Oh by the way I LOVE CANADA!

Hellooo... I know there is young kids who does not fall into the trends and do not copy TV garbage and pop stuff. I also know these kids are smart because they can make better choices, they were well educated, but they are not the majority and here I am saying about the large poor part of the young population. I apologize 4 those who did not got my point, but the major stuff which appears on TV and in the media from US are materialistic and empty. I feel sorry 4 those kids, I wish we had in the american continent a better role model for education for the kids, something involving more good taste, arts, more deep meanings and more espirituality.
When I refer to the empire that will fall is just historic truth, Egypt did, Greece, the Roman, Portugal, Spain, England, they fell, yet some are still rich and important. Another power will come, maybe India, maybe China, maybe Brazil, maybe Latin America, maybe who knows which, but it will. I wish Peace and Charity 4 everybody ;-)

As much as I love Canada, I wonder if it HAS a culture. Sure, we have wonderful artists such as the Group of Seven, the writer of Anne of Green Gables etc. but Canada prides itself on multicultrualism, and the downside to loving every cultlure is not having any culture. While there are excellent qualities in being a multicultural nation, such as a rich diversity and acceptance, which might not be so frequently seen in other countries, it also eliminates in effect, the Canadian identity. It's one of the reasons Canada is so easily influenced by the United States.

It's not the 'stupidity' of young people, it's simply what they have grown up conditioned to think is 'cool'. In the sixties, afros were seen as 'cool' and any respectable person would be laughed at now for wearing one. It's an influence and a timeframe. I agree that skimpy clothing may not be the best image to connect to youths but it is what is being portrayed as 'cool' by multi-million dollar corporations that have spent millions of dollars on research and advertising to affect people. I don't think it's just Canada that is easily influenced. Other countries across the seas have also fallen to the same influence. But to say that ALL youths watch violence and enjoy skimpy clothing, is a generalization. As with everything, there is are groups who like and dislike certain trends.

As for 'empty materialism', that is really a generalization of the United States, even if it is founded on capitalism. If the United States is capitalistic and therefore, enjoys "empty materialism", then Canada and many other countries would fall into the same category b/c they are also capitalistic.

So in conclusion, although I strongly agree with your points about youths perhaps crossing the lines of propriety in dresscodes and Canadians perhaps being under too much influence of the United States, I don't believe it is anything reflective of the people as it is reflective of the situation, location, and overall relationship between both nations.

They are brother nations afterall, and as with any siblings, the big brother will inevitably influence the younger sibling. It is the price you pay for being neighbours with a superpower nation, and a country that is so plentiful in media and media related companies, and although that influence might be negative, it is definitely not ALL negative. Canada shares a lot of benefits for being on close relations to the United States.

Canada's brightest stars and most influential people usually go to the US, so Canada's contributions often come via the US.

So really, those Canadian kids are imitating their own people.

The US will not fall, it will become just another global giant along with China and India, similar to how England lost its Empire but is still one of the top global powers.

As an American I apologize for Hollywood and those rich blond nude brats that are tasteless, vulgar and flaunt their nonsense throughout the world. Mothers in America feel the same way but Hollywood doesn't care. America is not going to fall if I can help it. Just as you love Canada, I LOVE AMERICA!

I'm from the US, and I love Canada too....especially B.C. Strangers there treat you like a lifelong friend.
Let's face it, Canada is kinda like "USA Light". Way more people live in the US... There's a lot more media. It's no wonder kids up there emulate the crap they see from down here.....The foreign factor is part of it too- more apealing because it's exotic, not what they have grown up with locally.
I love America, but we could take a few lessons from Canada on social issues, especially gun control.

EDUCATE!!!
Talk to those who imitate the social disorders of my country. If the elders in Canada cannot reach into the minds and souls of their young then you lose them to the popular propaganda . Educate them on the importance of being unique and on keeping the values Canada has created through the centuries. I love this country dearly and am saddened that important values are being lost as we speak. I respect your view and question. I love America and our neighbors. Let's work together not as nations but as brothers and sisters. Make change.........

I love Canada, too (and I live south of the border, by the way) and trust me, I am also disturbed by the way young people look. But that's what young people do: They "try on" different looks and styles to see what fits. It also has to do with peer acceptance. Once they become adults, they understand the baggy pants and "whale tail" look don't fly well in the real world. Your best bet is to ignore them, and let reality hit them later on. And my thanks for being such great neighbors.

Most white ppl in Australia are immigrants from some other countries and not the true natives. Gangs have been in existence way before the American media started to focus on it so gtfoh. Saying you now have gangs is like saying you now have racism, drugs, guns and poverty
