Bush said many times that we would leave as soon as the Iraqis ask us to. More than 80% of the public wants us out. Only our puppet government does not ask us to leave. If they had any independent will, they would, too.

Fifth paragraph: "That figure reaches 81% if the separatist, pro-U.S. Kurdish minority in northern Iraq is not included."

Nickel, I see you can write. That means you must be able to read. The source, printed above, is USA Today. We're not talking the NY Times here.

Turntable -- do all your ideas on Iraq come from direct experience in the country?

I dont know where you are getting your info from---------but if we leave now all hell will really break loose. I am in Iraq and have been here 3 yrs. It is worse now in some areas than it ever was. If all of the Republicans, Democrats and Liberals that are complaining aboout getting the troops out would shut their mouths and come here, I am sure they would wake up and realize the need for more troops. I am not a republican, which it does not matter how I am registered--that is NOT important at this time. Do I agree with Bush or even like him??? HELL NO!!!, but if we pull out now boy will there be even more problems. Just so you know I work Security in IRAQ.

You have a good question here. As a veteran of the Iraq war, I'm asking the same question as well. However, the current Iraq government wants U.S. troops there to help bolster their instable security forces. Their government knows that if we pull out our 100,000 troops, the insurgency will have a much easier opportunity to take over the country. Hope this helps. I love it when people are inquisitive about politics instead of merely digesting whatever is presented on T.V. Thanks for posting.

Its amazing that they could poll 25 million Iraqis in the middle of
a civil conflict. Dont believe everything you read or hear. More
Iraqis turned out to vote than do in this country and the people
that form their government were elected by them.

no source...what a surprise...there are many reasons why not to leave...but you don't have ears to hear them...
did you read the bottom of the article...
Secondhand information
That negative opinion of the behavior of the troops rarely is based on direct contact. Iraq is a country the size of California with a population of 25 million. Many areas are sparsely patrolled. Only 7% in the poll say they based their opinions on personal experience.
Instead, Iraqis get their information from others. For about a third, it's pan-Arabic television such as the Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya satellite news channels. The networks frequently show scenes of U.S. forces shooting into Iraqi neighborhoods in hot spots such as Fallujah, an anti-American stronghold in the center of the country.

Slightly off on the percentage, it is more like 63%, but yes, we should leave.
