May sound crazy here, but give this a shot. Tie a tire to the end of a rope and run with it dragging behind you. I know there are tons of other equipment and exercises out there, but this one is cheap and easy enough for anyone to do. Herschel Walker did it to gain his speed and it also helped his strength and he is generally looked at as one of the greatest atheletes in history. He never lifted weights.
