That's a tough one, but here are a few suggestions.

First, try to explain that it will make him feel better, and that the medicine does not hurt. Try not to make it sound like a big deal. Ask him, for example, if he wants to have it before or after his bath, or supper. Give him a little room to decide.

Explain to him that you understand that it feels weird, and that you are only helping him.

Give him the supp. when he's winding down, like late evening or before bedtime.

If he still kicks and screams despite all your best efforts, get him to lie on his side. bend his knees up, having someone hold his knees up to his chest. Insert the suppository with a gloved finger, and push it into his rectum until you feel it glide all the way in. He will have a difficult time pushing it back out. Redress him, and have him lie on his back for a moment, soothing and comforting him, telling him that it's all over.

Reward him for being a good sport.

Good Luck to you!

I'm so sorry you have to do this! Been there and done that with both of mine.

You have to do it with help or after he's asleep. This may sound a little cruel but it's what has to be done. Someone has to hold him still while the other holds his legs up like a diaper change except you pull them into your side to keep a firm grip and slip it in. Or lay him across your lap bottom up, legs locked between yours, and have someone hold hold his torso and slip it in. They are probably glycerin based and will begin to dissolve/melt almost immediately. Those were the two ways I had to do it when I had help. When I was alone, I had to be a little stern with them and usually they complied. Every once in a while a little tap(like when they tap us to get our attention) on the leg to remind them it was for their health and stopped the tummy ache and hard boo boo. If they sleep really sound like both of mine did, you can sneak it in like a ninja and they are never the wiser. It's easier when they sleep on their sides or stomach.

Your best bet is to have one or two people hold him down and talk to him and get his mind off of it. He will hate it but it is better to get it over with and love on him after wards.

Hope this helps
