When I was nursing my 3 children (1 at a time lol) my doctor told me it was the 7 rule. 7 poops in one day is normal. 7 days between pooping is normal. Your baby is fine. But congrats!!!

If the formula has Iron in it, it could cause this problem. I didn't breastfeed and give formula to my babies at the same time. I just breastfed. So it could be the combination of the two also. He could be getting an upset tummy from the mixture of the two different kinds of milk. I know my babies went poop at least once a day, and when they didn't go everyday they were usually constipated. At that age poop should be extremely soft but not like diarrhea. I hope this helps.

My baby pooped everyday a couple times a day however he was a breastfed only baby. If the formula has a lot of iron in it for example Similac with iron the can make them constipated. Maybe try switch to something a little gentler like Enfamil still has iron but not as much. I know after a certain point babies don't poop as much as they did in the begining, so maybe your baby is at that point too. Good luck.

Babies will strain, turn red, grunt, etc. when passing stools whether they are hard or soft. They're moving poop sideways and they have to work at it. Breastfed babies can poop after each feeding or up to every few days, and formula fed babies can poop a few times a day to every few days. As long as his poop is soft and not like little balls, his bowels are okay.

it could be the formula they should poop everyday sometimes a couple of times if it is the formula just switch to another kid made for tummy problems like lacto. You can try making rice water in the mean time till you go to the peditriction just make boil rice put the water in a bottle then add a little sugar just so it won't taste bad it should help.

When my son was 2 1/2 months old (completely breastfed) his pooping was reduced to once every 10 days!
So with combination with formula, which would mean he would poop more often, your son sounds fine.
His uncomfortable look could be just getting used to the experience of pooping. Or it could be uncomfortable because it is burning his anus -- check the color/redness of his anus - if it is the color of his scrotal sac (his balls) it is fine. If it is a brighter red, you might want to cover it in diaper rash cream to ease the irritation. I wouldn't worry, but ask your doctor when you see her/him.

Iron in formula is a common problem for babies. If you are nursing him often and enough he should be going more then every 2-3 days. Call your pediatrician. It's not normal.

I nursed and they had bowel movements often, several times a day and it was loose. If he's struggling to get it out then he's backed up. Try just using breast milk until you get him to a doctor but you must take him. It could be something serious instead of excess iron in the formula, hernia's and the bowels being kinked can interfer with them passing it out.

it will depend on your diet as well, because your sitll feeding him breastmilk. If he is using all of the nutrient that he is getting between you and the bottles, then he wont poop as often. babys poop is supposed to be very soft. if it starts turning weird colors or seems to get harder, then ask your doc.
