Wyoming.

Mountains, rivers, lakes. Sunsets. Real Cowboys and Indians (actually that part isn't so great). Wolves, Bison, Elk, Moose, Coyotes, Antelope, Grizzly and Black Bears!

It is also the least populous state in the country, so it's good for misanthropes.

There is no best; basically it's a matter of opinion. You'll find advocates of Arizona being beautiful even though it's mostly desert, or Alaska (its huge wilderness), Massachusetts--where I'm from originally (the history and scenery), etc. I've been in a few states (all of New England, New York, Washington, Oregon), and the Orient, and I personally kind of prefer the Washington-Oregon area, because of the greenery. But the almost constant rain would drive me nuts! I also like Connecticut for the same reason, but only the upper half of the state; the coast is too populated. As to the most popular, I can almost bet it's California, where I now live. The same things as to beauty, grandness, famousness, etc, can be said for other countries.

All 50 states have their own beauty, their own grandeur, and their own greatness. That's what's great about the USA. There is always something new to see.

I love California and Florida, because of the climate, the nearness of the ocean, the people, and the freedom.
