I need to start working on my portfolio to apply to some art colleges but I am broke and I know you need a lot of life drawings and figure drawings in it to get accepted. Any info will be great. Thanx.

If you live in NYC, you could try Cooper Union's community outreach program (www.cooper.edu ... you'll see the links to 'Community outreach' or 'Pre-College'). I think they do it on saturdays, but it's only for people living in the city. You have to have a considerable amount of skill to apply, but if you make it you do so on a full scholarship, so you don't have to pay for the classes. Plus, it's effin' Cooper Union, which is one of the best art schools, and looks darn good on your college transcript.
SVA and Pratt have programs too (and Parsons might as well...and NYU Tisch School for the Arts does also, I believe), but it's not for free. It may be easier to get into, but it does cost several hundred dollars.

Also, if it comes down to it, you could just get friends or family to pose for you, or set up still-lifes at home.

So yea, check those out, and good luck =).

Those days are gone. Years ago there were many low-cost classes, available in the evening, at one of the schools. Unfortunately, that program no longer exists.

yes, but I find it easier, and less expensive, just to use binoculars and check out the neighbors
