I am a long term thinker, and I am a Democrat. I feel there is no difference, each party has its own opinion about the long and short of things, Democrats are at the moment more focused on the short term because they've got to make people happy before the presidential elections.

I think you need to be both.

Without a long term view or framework that lets you see the long term consequences, you will make decisions that are good in the short term but poor or at least subobtimal in the future. Yet, you need to think in the short term as well - giving priority to decisions you absolutely need to make immediately.

An example, of needing a long term frame work is what the US did with vehicle fuel use. In the 1970s when there was a gas shortage, there was a movement led by Jimmy Carter and others to get people to move to vehicles with better fuel usage. By the end of the 80s though gas was plentiful and cheap. It was still a finite resource that will be exhausted and it hurts the environment. But, because it was not a short term problem, the government did not push for high fuel usage and allowed SUVs to escape being classified as cars - elimininating them from the fuel standards. As SUVs became more common, it impacted the safety of people not in SUVs, leading to more SUVs. Imagine where we would have be if we would have looked at the long range ramifications.

An example of needing to look at the short term is that any economic plan that would lead to creation of more good viable jobs needs to be supplemented with short term solutions for people needing immediate help.

Is it correlated to political party. I don't think so. There are thoughtful people on both sides and there are some who don't plan for things that are obviously on the horizon.

I am a Democrat. I am a long term thinker.

I'm a long term thinker. I'm an ex-Republican turned into a non-voter. I don't think there is any correlation.

Long term. Registered as a Democrat only so I could vote in the primaries. Best viewed as a centrist in viewpoint. Correlation? Based on only my view, impossible to say.

How about some responsible, sane thinking, and taking accountability for that thinking. If something is not working, change it, and sending more troops is not a change.
