Heterozygous just means that the alleles for a trait don't match. Rr is heterozygous - it has two alleles, R and r.

RR is homozygous - it has two alleles, R and R.
rr is homozygous - it has two alleles, r and r.

I tell my students to remember that homo means same. We go with the m sound in the words. homozygous = same-o=zygous
