I know it sounds disgusting but I have been having cramps lately, they don't really hurt but it feels like I am about to start my period. I went to the bathroom and there was light brown blood coming out, and not alot of it, could it have been discharge? Please help..

I get brownish colored blood when I start my period and before it ends. The red, heavy flow usually comes in between and doesn't last very long. I think this is normal. Wear a panty liner when this happens then switch to a pad or a tampon when you get your heavy flow. I don't think there's anything to worry about here, good luck!

First of all, the word is vagina--it's not dirty so it's ok to spell it out!

Sometimes right before your period really starts or at the end of a period you have cramps & brownish colored discharge comes out.

Sometimes after rough sex a woman gets some brownish discharge due to vaginal wall trauma.

Could you be pregnant? If so, you may be in the process of miscarriage (not trying to upset or scare you but it is a possibility).

Does the discharge have a foul odor? If so, see your doctor asap.

Are you on the Pill or other contraceptives like Depo-Provera? It might be break-through bleeding & again you should see your doctor.

Sometimes, if you don't have regular periods, the lining of the uterus can build up to an excessive level and cause pain & bleeding. Your doctor can tell you if this is the case & if a procedure called a D&C can help you.

If it keeps up, see your doctor (that seems to be my answer to everything today--but it's true!)

Good luck!

Brown blood is old blood, could be left over from a pervious period and the beginning of your next one.

Totally normal. My blood goes from brown to bright red to brown again in one period. You're not alone and it's totally normal.

It's "old" blood. Your period HAS started, but hasn't started flowing yet. I get it all the time. No worries

It may be nothing, but it also could be trichomonas vaginalis, which is an infection of a parasite in your vagina. Have you had sexual intercourse? If not, then it is probably a more benign infection.

See the doc so you can get on antibiotics.
