Singapore - there was a caning that took place which is why everyone knows this now. But I don't think it's illegal to buy only to not throw it away in the right place. Maybe it is illegal to buy but chewing gum is not that bad.

This is why I love america. "One can chew as much chewing gum as one would like."

Chewing gum is banned in Singapore under the Regulation of Imports and Exports (Chewing Gum) Regulations. Except for chewing gum of therapeutic value, the "importing" of chewing gum into Singapore is absolutely banned.
