We'll need a way station on our way to Mars or one of Jupitor's moons, this ol planet is getting way to full. In 50 years we'll be at 10 billion souls at our current rate of growth with zero fossil fuels, zero coal and other natural resources. Where do i sign up for the Mar's Colony?

Oh yeah the moon rocks!

What kind of person wouldn't risk everything to do that? 'Orion' seems pretty neat. Kind of like the new Thunderbird or something, you the the old and the new(er).

It's kind of sad that I preferred almost all of the concepts I've seen other than this one. Orion won't land on the moon (as i look for ANY lander specs), and it's not well equipped for the 8 month trip.

At this rate we'll still be blasting people into orbit on top of controlled explosions for the next 40 years. The 'abort' system is a nice touch too. They must really have confidence in this ship, designing multiple modes of failure into it.

Oh well. They only have so much time, and so much money. I just get crabby because I want to see slow progress forward, instead of this back and forth we've seen all our lives.

Yes, we should go back to the moon, and I think it makes sense to take a relatively light weight "space vehicle" as high as possible in the atmosphere by either towing behind an aircraft or attached to an aircraft, release it and ignite rockets to take it the remainder of the way into Earth orbit and then fire rockets to escape Earth orbit to the moon. The tricky part is returning to Earth. Of course a decent heat shield is the order of the day for that. Save a spot in the capsule for me....I'm coming with you.....

I have not seen the design for the proposed shuttle replacement. But the shuttle technology is now decades old, and we should be able to do better.
