Hi, my name is philip.
I just moved from europe and now I live in michigan...
I grew up with graffiti, heres the thing I started art when I was about 4 and by the age of 10 I started sketching and by the age of 12 I started graffiti.

Hell yeah, A "crew" is just like a group, like a film crew, camera crew, art crew ....
You have 3 types of graffiti artists:

1- Writers who really are in to grafftiti, who maybe do some illegal stuff but only on old buildings or mostly on authorized buildings, people who demand it... And nowadays I would call it spray can art, or fine photorealistic graffiti, where you will not see as much names on a wall... just graphics and ART

2- Vandals, members of gangs like MS13 ones who just mark their turf or graffiti artists who want their name to be out there and sometimes people who just have money to bail out.

3- "Flase" graffiti writers: Artists who are great in fine arts and try out graffiti but dont have the feeling and *thing* to be a graffiti artist.

All 3 are ART related they are not, NOT ART... its like a carpenter its ART not wood carver, or musician its artistic

IT IS DEFINITELY A GOOD THING ( besides vandalism )
But hey vandals can see it as art in their eyes, like I did a photorealistic mocking bird on a wall,... or when you want people to know things like how many people die from tobacco each year yo uhave Graffiti artists / vinylists who stick and spray Facts about tobacco.

Well I hope thats it !!!!

Im out!!!
PHILIP

Artistic grafitti is great. Banksy from Bristol (UK) is a very talented graffiti artist and trying to send a message. However, most of what is about is just an eyesore - far too many people drawing crude pictures or writing swear words, just a tag over and over or scribbling.

If it has artistic appeal and isn't on somebody's car or something, OK. However, 90% of graffiti on the streets is the equivalent of dogs peeing on fire hydrants; its just a stylized symbol or word that marks out some gang or lone punk's prowling grounds.

It is only good when expressing good things. It's not good when it looks like vandalism...like words all over a building. But I love it when people do pictures and other positive things....especially on the buildings in New York.

No it is not a good thing. It is a way for gangs to talk or send messages or mark thier turf. It also downgrades the appearence of everything.

Grafitti is awesum when its done well, alot of wannabe "gangstas" just doodle and write all kinds of crap but i have a friend who's an awesum artist and he does alot of graffitti and if u ask me he makes his neighborhood look alot more spiffy.

No, it's vandalism. Expressing yourself is fine but not when you deface other people's property and force everyone to look at your crap that you claim is art.
