Want to gut the cat to my 4.8 silverado when I install my headers.Will they still pass emissions?My cat is stock and my mechanic said whenever he installs the headers, he can gut the cat and the engine breathes a lot more causing more hp and torque with the help of the headers,he also said they would pass but different people tell me different things.What are your opinions?Axelbeast

Let the mechanic do it then turn him into the EPA. You may get a reward.

Your truck cannot pass emissions with a gutted cat. Leave the cats and ditch the mufflers. Its a violation of Federal law and your garage could be fined 50,000 dollars.

It won't pass emissions, will likely cause the "check engine " light to come on (the O2 sensor needs 3" back pressure to read correctly) and too low back pressure at low speed can cause to engine to have lower torque. You will most likely have less power, burn more fuel, won't pass emissions, and be fined and have to replace the cad converter with a new one.

you won't pass emissions due to the fact only the outer skin of the cats are there, just buy a high performance cat and it will flow just as good as no core in your cat does and you will be legal and pass emissions.

Single or dual. they do sell high flow cats. Look for headers That are legal.

no it is against emissions to do that the catalytic converter is supposed to get rid of those emissions and that's why all cars have them now
