I think that you are asking if the pantyhose manufacturers who advertise pantyhose for men are really just trying to get the attention of women. If that is your question, the answer is no. There are some companies out there that manufacture pantyhose specifically for men. I have no idea what the difference is, but I imagine that they are made with more room in the front for the different male parts. Maybe they would have larger feet as well, but I'm not sure. Either way, the wearing of pantyhose by men, while certainly not mainstream and obviously not readily accepted by society, is becoming more common. I know that there are likely some medical benefits, although I don't claim to know what specifically they are. Also, I imagine that warmth would be an advantage too. I know that one time when I was snowboarding, I ended up having to wear women's tights under my pants (no other option, long story) and they actually worked surprisingly well, as they did not bunch up like socks in my boots, and did not bunch up under my pants like boxers, and they were just warm enough but not too hot like long johns would be. I haven't been snowboarding yet this season, but I may actually use them again.

As far as actual pantyhose (I was wearing tights, which are thicker, the the ones that ballerinas wear), I don't think they provide much warmth, nor are they likely a common fashion statement for men. However, that being said, I'm sure that some men out there wear them purely for fashion. As a result there are companies that make them just for men. (I searched the web prior to posting this and found that a company called comfilon makes them specifically for men)

So, in summation, it is not a joke, there are actually some made just for men. As to the reasons that men wear them, I'm sure there are thousands.

Why can't men wear pantyhose? Women wear ties as fashion statements. Some pantyhose have silk in them and feel so good next to your skin, they can also help with circulation.
