A little blood may mean nothing, but it could also mean a miscarriage. Did you doctor express any concerns about the blood he/she found around the placenta. If the doctor was concerned, I would think that they would have you coming in a little more regularly.
As for cramping, they don't necessarily mean miscarriage. I had horrible cramps around week 5, it felt like I was about to have my period. It freaked me out. But my doctor assured me that it was just the egg implanting itself and my body getting used to being pregnant.
You two are in my thoughts and will pray for you. Hopefully everything is fine.

I can't speak to the blood around the placenta, only your doctor can, but with regards to cramps, I had what felt like mild menstrual cramps through the early weeks of my current (second trimester) pregnancy. I also showed a tiny tinge of pinkish beige spotting on a couple of occasions right around this time. My OB said this was normal.

Bleeding around the placenta isn't usually good but most docs will put you on bed rest for a week or so to allow the "tear" to heal.
I cramped very badly from weeks 7 - 9 but never bled. My doc said it was the baby burrowing deeper into my uterus...
Call your doc and discuss your concerns with him.
Good luck!

Actually, 20% of women are spotting in their pregnancies and it doesn't mean anything. I had cramping in the beginning, too, sometimes I had to put an ice bag on my belly, because it was just so bad! Don't worry, it will stop or get better after the first trimester. Good luck!

I am 4 weeks pregnant and have had cramps since my 3rd week. My doctor said this was normal. I didn't have any spotting, but she said to call right away if I had any spotting. Good luck.

I don't want to scare you but when I was pregnant with my 3rd child my friend was pregnant with her first. She was 10 weeks and had some cramping and spotting. She called me to ask what I think. I told her to call the doctor immediately. She waited about a day and a half. The doctors ordered and ultra sound. She called me before she left thinking that every thing was OK. About 5 hours latter she called me to let my know that the baby was dead and that she had to schedule a CDT (I think that's what it's called) to have the baby removed. So please please please call your Doctor asap. Unborn babies life is nothing to put off a phone call about. I am pregnant with my fourth and the #1 thing to call the Dr. about is vaginal bleeding and cramping. Good luck and I hope everything is OK.
