With Kaz and Reyes and the rest, they've got a good shot, though they'll need to reload on pitching considering Glavine's age and Pedro's fragility.

I think 2006 was our year and we fell short of what we could and should have done. I think 2007 will be a slight drop off unless we get a #1 or 2 starter somehow. Not saying we don't make the playoffs, hell we might even win the whole thing, but I don't think we'll be the overwhelming powerhouse of the NL this year. Maybe we do what the Cards did this year. Make it in and let 'er rip.
By 2008 I think we'll be lined up for a nice run of being a dominant force, once Pelfrey, Milledge (unless we trade him and I think there's a good shot of that) and some of the younger talent like Humber & Gomez we have fall into place. The system is stocked with blue chippers on the mound and in the outfield. Francisco Pena will eventually be our catcher, all we need to do is develop a 1b and 2b and we'll have a core for a 5+ year run.

The 2006 season was an excellent season for the Mets but not their best. I feel they have more to look forward to in 2007. With David Wright, Jose Reyes, Paul LoDuca, Tom Glavine, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, Jose Valentin,Shawn Green, El Duque, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Billy Wagner, Aaron Heilman and Pedro Martinez getting healthier, there's no doubt that the Mets are going to do better. Plus, the Mets have Endy Chavez, Aaron Heilman and Duaner Sanchez. I'm looking forward to see Moises Alou, Mike Pelfrey, David Newhan and Phil Humber play.
Let's go Mets!!! (:-o

There is more to look forward to. They need a couple of things to change though. First they need a couple of good young pitchers, they can't count on Pedro for most of this season, and who knows how Glavine will do at 41? Second, they need David Wright to play like he did in the first half. He had 20 home runs before the break and 4 afterward. He got caught up in all the attention, commercials, appearances, etc. They need him to put baseball first, and all the other stuff second. He should have had a lot better numbers than he did. Also, the all-star home run derby really messed up his swing, as it did Abreu's the previous year. He only started getting his power back at the end of '06. Hopefully, it won't take Wright that long.

Great season, but this was the Cards' year. Now that this group has a year of playoff experience, I say the Mets will only improve, especially with guys like Wright, Delgado and Reyes. Our starting pitching staff remains a question mark for now. I love the way Perez and Maine pitched in the NLCS, and if they perform in that manner then we're all set.
As long as the core players are kept together, this team could be better than the teams of the late '80's.

1986 was their best season, 2006 was a great season but they fell short. We'll see in 2007. I hear the Braves have retooled and will be tough and watch out for the young Marlins. No need to worry about the Nats or Phillies (both clubs stink)

I think they have more to look forward to, but that was a great run in the postseason. Unfortunately they lost to st.louis in 7 games, but the mets can say pedro martinez didnt pitch and just imagine if he was in that series. I dont know how big is the acquisition of moises alou, but I know they have the players to win a world series if they stay healthy

With David Wright, Jose Reyes, Mike Pelfrey, Lastings Milledge to build around, not to mention baseball's best GM, Omar Minaya, they'll be in the hunt for quite some time.

Kaz Matsui was dealt away last year to Colorado.
The Mets will need to put up good run support again this year to aid that aging and inexperienced pitching staff.
How much is that Kazmir for Zambrano trade hurting about now?

This team definitely still has great years in front of them. Wright and Reyes are young and still might get even better (scary). Delgado and Beltran are beasts. They added championship caliber role guys like Alou and Green. They have a good bullpen. The rotation is a little questionable, but if they stay healthy, they are great. I think they still may try to add a starter as well.
