That, my friend, is a matter of personal taste.
I have a guitar effects processor that I use cuz I don't care for the distortion that came with my Peavey amp.
The kind I like the most is like what you hear on early Black sabbath recordings, but everyone has there own thing they like.

The early 80s Fender Twins had one of the best raw distortions next to the Marshall. The Marshall sounds like the amp for you as you like the UK amps.
I use a Digitech 2101 preamp with a solid state, stereo amp pushing sixty watts. I'm an old fuzz man myself, had Randalls, Fenders, Marshalls, Ampegs, Acoustics, Kustoms and then some. In this day and age, in my opinion anyway, it's hard to beat a signal processor. Marshall makes them as well.
