To be somebody is to be important in some way and to make a difference in the world.

"I'm just a nobody" means that the speaker thinks he is not important at all and that nothing he does will matter to anyone.

To me, being a 'somebody' means be someone who can people refer to, influential and aspirizing, a role model you can call it, living your life with meaningful and useful stuff. Just a nobody - ermmm...usually people use the term to denote "i'm not in the right position to tell/decide", not important people, so on and forth. Arghh...what have i said, check out the encyclopedia though :P hahahha

Somebody means someone prominent in society. nobody means you are not so special and you are usually in the background. I'm not sure what the "official" definition is but this is my thoughts about it.

To "be somebody" is to have importance, influence, good social standing, etc. To be "just a nobody" is precisely the reverse.
