You should go for Dell or HP are the best for not a lot of money.

First off, I believe that Alienware has been acquired by Dell in 2006, so they are from the same company. ALienware has not lost it's individuality.

Other than that, Dell has some excellent laptops. I have 2 myself and they will work great for college students. For under $1000, you can get a machine that will do OK on gaming, but nothing completely hardcore.

Dell has some great coupons, including a 20% off $999 laptop. Use those and get a better machine for your money. You can get them at http://www.24houredeals.com/dell-coupons-23-mer.html

Good Luck.

Alienware is good if you plan on using the computer for heavy gaming. Dell is good value overall. I would choose a dell.

I wouldnt suggest either, but if you had to go with dell. With alienware your paying for the name. But if you ignored both dell and alienware you could find an even better deal. I suggest looking on tigerdirect.com

It all depends what you want to do. If you want gaming I would go with the Alienware, if you need it for anything else go with the dell.
