Have you spoken to your doctor about options of laproscopic or for you to be awake and have an epidural? Any type of surgery is scarry and has risks and doctors are required to spell out all the possible outcomes so that you are fully informed. I think the idea that once we submit to anasthesia and have no control over what is going on with our bodies is the scariest part. I had fibroids and had surgery to have them removed with just an epidural about 8 years ago. I was able to converse with the surgeon the entire time."(My husband thought I was a sicko) I ended up having a hysterectomy 4 years ago and had it laproscopic because the recovery time was faster (supposedly). I also endured a partial mastectomy 2 years ago. Each time I was scared about not waking up and how my family would cope.

What I have done is to keep my self as busy as possible up until the surgery and try not to dwell on it. Hysterectomy is a very common surgery and I am sure that the outcome will be positive for you and your family.

Death is always a risk with ANY surgery. I know, I was freaked out too when I went in for my consultation 20 years ago for the removal of an ovarian cyst. I'm sure your doctor has done many hysterectomies without incident. You'll be fine. Relax (easier said than done I know).

You will be perfectly fine. The doctors MUST include that little disclaimer...otherwise they leave themselves open for law suits. Many, many women every day have hysterectomies; they're life-saving procedures - in more ways than the obvious.

Please be assured that your family will be fine for the 2 or so weeks that you'll be incapacitated; work will get along ok without you too. Its going to be OK! Just put your trust in your faith and your family's love and it'll be fine. Good luck!

You need to stop stressing yourself out.....of course you are worried but you trust your doctor and have wonderful family support system. The docs have to give you all the information about the operation and the complications that could happen - part of the whole operation procedure and I think for legal reasons. I had a cataract operation when I was about 40 and they gave me all complication information, death, etc and that was just a eye operation. You need to just focus on yourself right now, your family and your job will manage just fine without you for a while, trust me they will do fine. All my best to you and try to relax.
