I am in close agreement. no excuse for cosmetic testing or unneeded medical testing. There is no place for torture as behaviourists did animals in the name of psychology. I say did because they probably would not be allowed today.
I hate all testing involving animals, however, in the case of medical things, I am not sure how it can be avoided.

Any living thing on earth has the same amount of right as us to be living here. I dont think in any way that are humans are better than animals - yeah we're more intelligent but so what!!
Anything that involves an innocent animal going through pain for the sake of us humans is discusting!!
We dont need all these cures anyway because there are too many people living on earth as it is.
It just really irritates me that we have to abuse animals in order to make ourselves better. It's discusting.
If we cant get a cure for certain things without harming animals then don't make the cure at all!

Did you know that these medical companies use the fact they have tested on animals as allaby if the patient gets sick or dies from the medicine?(there have been lots of cases) this means they don't get sued because they can just say "well, we tested it on animals"
Animals don't react to things the same way we do, for example what might be deadly to a dog might be perfectly safe for a human being and vice versa.
You might want to check the PETA website properly, have a proper good look around and open your eyes...
But as for animal activists, the extremists do annoy me too.

Sorry dude, but I'm with Catweazel. Some of these activists say and do some pretty outrageous and unhelpful stuff, but the bottom line is that we do not actually own this planet and it's inhabitants outright. Other creatures have as much right to a quality of life as we do.

Go here, then tell me if you are still so keen on the idea of animal testing.

And believe it or not, most animal rights activists are not 'terrorists' or 'trouble-makers'. The majority of us are peaceful, but because of the actions of a tiny few, the media would like you to believe we are all a bunch of psychopaths.
Not so at all. All we want is for science to advance WITHOUT the need for excruciating suffering of innocent animals.

It depends.
Some areas of research depend highly on animal test subjects, but I imagine there are corporations and labs out there that could do a lot to improve the humaneness of their practices without it detracting from the general public's best interests.

I agree....some of these activist have harmed humans for their agenda, but that is okay to them. Medical research is necessary for us to find treatments and cure, and the animals are part of the process.

staggering human conceit and arrogance!
do you think they are toys or cardboard cut outs or something?
they are living things with lives of their own.
sounds like the family you come from might be lacking in ethics
or compassion.
are you religious or do you have a background in science?
some of these types believe that if something doesnt have a soul
[according to their looney beliefs] humans can do what they like
with so-called lesser creatures.....or that "progress" demands we
exploit every creature for the knowledge it can provide.
anyway theres no point me even carrying on, you are not likely to
change your cruddy mentality because of a yahoo answers post

Yes they annoy me very much. Once I went to some PETA forum and and completely debunked their "humans are not meant to eat meat" and "Jesus was a vegetarian" crap. Needless to say, they banned me.
