Do physics and computer science have similar qualities?

In some ways, yes. It is well known within the physics community that the best programmers come from physicists who had to learn programming to solve physics problems. Unfortunately, the reverse is not usually true.

Both involve problem solving and the ability to take apart a problem into pieces.

Solving the equations which approximate some physical processes like fluid dynamics and astrophysics require sophisticated codes and powerful computers. People who develop and run such codes are called computational physicists, and are in great demand. Maybe you should be consider becoming code head.

In Computer Science you will learn to write code that will efficiently encapsulate an algorithm.
In Physics you will learn how the real world works in terms of mass, energy, force, . . . etc.
These are only tangentially related.
