I recommend a rabbit, because you can house train them, so that they use a litter box. I have two house rabbits and they are great, by far the best pets I have ever had!!

Also dwarf rabbits are really really cute!

If you do get a rabbit I recommend getting one from an animal shelter because they are cheap and they will already be neutered/spayed.

I have a had a lop eared rabbit for the past 3 years and she is the best pet I have ever had. Bunnies can be litter boxed trained and they are very social creatures. Basically it is like having a permanent toddler around. So if you go with the bunny make sure that you are willing to put in the time. I have to spend about a hour a day just petting her or she gets cranky.
And if you go with a bunny and you do not end up keeping her do NOT release her into the wild. She would not survive.
I'll take her.

I had a rabbit called Thumper at home for a few years. For some reason, it's kind of like he's litter trained by himself because it's usually in a pile. I love rabbits a lot. My rabbit also eats bread. I don't know a lot about mouse or mice though. Here's some things that rabbits might eat.

young rabbits need a special rabbit pellet feed formulated for growth. they do not need to eat iceberg lettuce, but rather green leaf and romaine lettuce. they like parsley & cilantro. carrots should be fed in moderation, they are high in sugar, contrary to what most people think. apples, pears, peaches, blueberries, strawberries can be given in small amounts. (1 to 2 pieces daily) Timothy hay is essential!! They need it to maintain their digestive systems which are very sensitive and delicate. NEVER give them popcorn, cookies, sugary sweets or other people foods. Only fresh vegetables, pellets, hay & small servings of fruits. Chocolate can kill them!! They need to have some form of food all day and night long, or they could die..They can never be fasted, They also need a steady supply of fresh water. Alfafa hay is also good for young rabbits.

Also grass. I just coppied that off. Here's a website. Also a website for mice. I hope that they're usefull. Good luck!

I have 2 rabbits and they are so great! I would actually prefer a dog but my house is too small :(
Anyway, bunnies are good - they can be litter trained because they only like to go in one spot.
They are quite cheap to feed (lots of hay, water and some veg/fruit) and only need to go to the vet for a check up and vaccination (depending on where you live).
They can live outside in a hutch or inside. One of mine likes living outside, and the other loves to be inside and follow me around. They have quite different personalities, like any other animals!
And aside from all this, they are better than watching TV - they are SOOO funny to watch while they play, groom and snooze. If you get one young and spend heaps of time with it while it's little, it will really bond to you and spend lots of time with you happily.
Good luck and have fun!

Even though it costs more, go with the chinchilla. It will be unique, friendly, and lives longer.
