what is the area? i can't figure out what is "x"

I don't believe there is a way to figure out what x is, actually.

Maybe the problem is asking you to compute the area IN TERMS OF x?

If so, that would be:

(6 + x)(4 + 1) = (6 + x)5 = 30 + 5x

And you could also calculate it by:

6 × 4 + 6 × 1 + x × 4 + x × 1
24 + 6 + 4x + x
30 + 5x

But without more information, that's as well as you can do, I'm pretty sure.
