This sounds like it has lost its sound drivers, not a big problem...Find the make of your soundcard/onboard sound by looking at your PC's documentation, or if that doesn't work try going into ur Command prompt (Start-Accessories-Command prompt) and typing "DXDIAG" wait for it to fully load then go to sound and it should display the manufacturer there. once that is done, go to tha manufacturer's website and download new drivers for it, install them and that should sort you out..Hope that helped!

You need to first of all try troubleshooting your sound card to verify the device is working properly.
Click on start, control panel, sound and audio device, - on the properties menu you have different options just try and navigate through all and see if your hardware is working properly,if not try troubleshooting it.If the troubleshooter states that there is nothing wrong with your hardware and you are still having the problem. Then you need to open your system case to verify if all the nuts that hold your sound card are intact,if they are, just try shaking the card a little bit with no pressure applied.you should be fine. good luck
