no, FFVII:AC is only related to final fantasy VII. if you played that game, that movie AC will have more of a background, but just barely - the game didn't go into character depth

each final fantasy game has a different way of telling a story where a character needs to save the world. sometimes the story gets complicated, like how in IV (my favorite of the series) the story was about the inner battle of good VS evil, as well as saving the world

none of the games are required "starter" games. in fact, the first final fantasy is among the more challenging games, but only because the storyline doesn't tell you exactly where to go

the best starters depend on which game systems you have. for nes, there's only one game. for snes, mystic quest is a good starter - it was actually designed as a starter. for gba, FFIV advance is a great starter. for ps/psx, yes, ffVII is a decent starter. ps2's FFX is also a fair introduction to the series

Start with the very first Final Fantasy Vll, which is "Final Fantasy Vll" (without any additional title) for the Sony PlayStation (without any additional number). The movie "Final Fantasy Vll: Advent Children" was only based on that game.

Other Final Fantasy games that are not Final Fantasy Vll games aren't related with the story of Final Fantasy Vll.
