I might have colon cancer. I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow and I'm really nervous and worried. I have been having a lot of bleeding. I have been doing the prep and it's coming out clear liquid and blood so I guess the prep worked? How bad will the procedure hurt? The doctor said I won't be put to sleep for the procedure and I'll be given a sedative, but no pain meds. He said I won't need them. That worries me too.

As far as the procedure itself, it depends on how you react to the sedatives. The procedure can be painful because they fill the intestines with air, which can create a very "full" feeling. Tell them ahead of time if you are nonreactive to sedatives. During the procedure, however, if you experience pain, they will give you another shot of sedative to calm you down. Most people do not remember having the procedure done. The worst part is the preparation. They usually don't say they put you to "sleep", but the sedative does make you out of it. I do not remember mine.

Yes, your stools should be clear. Once you stop drinking the medicine, you might start having bowels again. That is normal.

Having blood mixed in the clear passing is not normal, and it is good that they are doing the test.

Find an e-support group to join after your procedure is over, or surround yourself with some kind of support from family or friends. These are difficult and frightening days for you, and you need people to help carry you through it. Please hang in there, and know we'll be praying for you. Take care...

I've done this more than once. If you have done the prep correctly everything will go smoothly. I didn't hava any pain. That sedative they give you is great. Works kind of like you know what's going around you, but you don't care. Good Luck

My friend, who is the biggest baby ever, said it wasn't that bad. My brother had one and he was fine. He was doing yard work when he got home. Good luck with your results, I imagine this is a scary time for you. Good for you for seeing a doc and doing this.
