It is definitely possible. But it would be a very complicated and very expensive undertaking to do it right. It's not just a question of dropping out the transmission and popping in a new one. There are all kinds of other parts that are linked to it and the way the computer is set up. It would truly cost so much money to do, you'd be better off simply trading it for a manual car. The other problem is too is that after the change your VIN will still identify you car as an automatic, even though it is now a manual. You will have to disclose this kind of thing to your insurance company which will cause them to raise your insurance or simply void your insurance. Insurance companies hate people making stupid modifications to their cars. It makes them nervous. Most of the people that do this kind of thing, end up driving like idiots, and they don't want the hassle. While you may love a manual transmission, it is pretty clear that the majority of Americans don't. So you are also going to be making your car less desirable to sell. It will be worth less just because it is a manual, but if the buyer finds out that is has been converted (which they likely will from the VIN) it will be even more undesirable. So you have a double reason why your car should be worth less, and of course you also lost what you invested to make it a manual in the first place. So the bottom line is, just don't do it. Save up the money you would have spent on the job, together with you unaltered BMW, and then take it to a nice dealership and buy a certified used BMW with a manual gear box.

No.
All bmw 7 series from 1995-2006 had an automatic transmission, however, i have heard of many stories of 7 series manual conversions using the 535i tranny.
1988-1992 had manual transmissions, but they did not come with v8s.
Those are the pre 95 7 series with the e32 engine, and e34 parts (525i) worked on them.
There is a 6 speed conversion for 95-2000 7 series, but the parts alone are $10,000.
Here is a 735 with a 6 speed conversion

BMW E23 body (1977-1987) 733i and 735i were built with a 5-speed.

Also, the 1988-1989 E32 735i were available with 5-speed.

Most of these cars sold in the US were optioned with automatics. I have seen four of these manual 7-series, and although they are rare, can be found if you look long enough.

Search on Autotrader, and / or join the BMW car club to check their ads.

There were some 735i cars from 1988 & 1989 that were 5 speed from the factory. If you want a newer 7 series with 5 speed, you have to convert it yourself. Luckily, the 535i came in 5 speed and the parts can fit a 735 easily. The 740i can use parts from the 540i also. You have to research. Try www.bimmer.org. I know one of the members converted is 735. He says approx $2500 in parts. Check the link below.

The early to mid 80's 7-series had manual trans available. I believe they were standard on the lower numbers, like 733i and 735i here in the States.

Later 7 Series I believe do not have manual trans (89 and up).

I am no mechanic and don't know the technical specification.. but still it seems a little absurd to me. If you already have the car... well sell it and get yourself a M5 of a similar price. If you haven't acquired it yet.... well don't Get the car as it came from the factory, seems really irrational to convert a car in which so much technology has been invested to make it a perfect automatic car... for a manual made by some car shop. My advice: Don't throw your money to the garbage. good luck
