The best time to buy a new PC is right after Thanksgiving, before Christmas and right before back to school. Those are the times most places lower prices to try and get customers to buy their stuff.

It really depends on you and how old is your computer. Is there anything new out there that’s exciting enough to make replacing your current desktop computer worthwhile? How urgent is it for you to get a new computer? What kind of computer do you want? What is this computer going to be used for; i.e. gaming, web surfing, design, etc.? These are some of the questions you should think about.
Usually, there are new forecast of PC Sales around holiday season, i.e. after Thanksgiving Day Sale [ a.k.a Black Friday ] and before Christmas Sales. There are also a good variety of computer sales around August and September [ Back to School Sales]. There are also internet computer sales almost every week on the manufacturer's website.
So, it depends on when you need it and how much you want to save.
If you want to save big and don't mind camping out for it: I suggest Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. You will save the most for a good computer or laptop.

The computer guys reccommend you should buy a new PC every 5 years or so. It's pretty cheap around this time of year at Best Buy.

I would suggest buying one at the beggining of the year or right after Thanksgiving b/c thats when all Microsoft and Apples latest stuff comes around those times. I work computers for a school district and we always wait for this time of year to buy.

Now is the best time if you want to get everything you need for it at a reasonable price. All stores are trying to get rid of their extra stock from the Christmas sales so they should be reasonably priced. Never purchase one after June or before November. The prices get high because of Back- to- School and pre Christmas

January. As new technology is brought to the shelves at the end of Jan to Feb, older products must be sold cheaper in order to sell them.
Microsoft and other computer companies know that people like you and me will jump right on that and by the out of date stuff for cheaper becuase it's better than what we have.
Meanwhile, hardcore computer buyers save their money and take their swing at the market the next month on the newer, next generation of technology.
This process is great for everyone; Microsoft has two waves of intenst demand, we the people of the middle-class get cheap technology, and upper-class rich folk get the greatest and latest.

Salesmen are always under pressure to close deals at the end of the quarter. So quarter end or year end are usually when you can get the best deals.
If you're buying a Microsoft-based system, you would probably be best off to wait until you can get a Vista-equipped machine, as you don't want to be upgrading operating systems if you can avoid it.

If you can wait for Vista (30 January 2007 US release, not that long of a wait after that till Aus release date) then stay put for a while.
Few reasons:
1) More stable, secure OS for all aspects of working the computer.
2) Greatly enhanced multimedia features.
3) The possibility of a price-cut on hardware by release date, Vista isn't as power-hungry as was originally thought. :)
Just an option, if you dont mind waiting... :)

Traditionally, About June, after School is out, I have been in the computer business for over 15 years, and every year June is when I get my best pricing. Not many computers are sold in the summer time, so lots of incentives and such.
