All birth control attempts have a fail rate so use two. Withdrawal is not an effective one.

I never had any problems with pregnancy (on Depo for 2 years, switched back to the pill), but be careful with Depo. It can cause all sorts of crazy side effects. My list:
Depression
Painful intercourse
Vaginal Dryness
Hot Flashes (at 17/18 years old)
Weight gain (20 lbs)
Decreased libido (not a bad thing for someone who wants to have sex twice daily, but for the average person, not too good)
Mood swings
At least that's what I remember. I've also known women who went on it and couldn't get pregnant for 3 years after stopping. It can also slow calcium absorbtion into the bones. Most doctors don't recommend being on Depo for more than 2 years.

Depro is an effective form of birth control for most women. However, it has a higher risk of blood clots and heart attacks, especially if you smoke. Like the Pill, the failure rate is extremely small, less than 3% of the time. Some women can become pregnant on this, but it is very rare. If you are really concerned about pregnancy, withdrawal is a poor method, better to let your hubby use condoms or you use a diaphragm as back up and get to enjoy the ride. However your risks are very small of getting pregnant if you keep your injection schedule up. Breast feeding reduces the risk of pregnancy further.
Stop worrying so much about it failing. Unless you are one of those super mutant fertile mertiles where no form of hormonal contraception works, you have nothing to be concerned about. You are just risking your relationship with your husband for nothing.

I have tried depo before and it is a good birth control but it does have side effects, and then if you do not feel if that is the right birth control for you try the vaginal kind, ask your Doctor b/c he knows your body. best of luck

I have checked out this website and it has alot of helpful information on the Depo. Myself, being on it for 3 yrs, have not had any problems or pregnancy risks.

Things are very unstable in the first month or two after pregnancy. He should use condoms until you both want to have another baby. You should stay on birth control also. Then he can stay in for the good part. Also it ensures that having another baby is a two person decision.

I know women who have had the shot. Your body still has to get back to normal after giving birth, soooo wait probably 8 weeks before having sex. The shot is pretty effective, but if you start to lose hair, stop taking it and call your DR.

Congrat's on your new baby.How-ever the birth control method you've chosen as a safety net is one that is the least "dependable".Try a condom along with the other, until you know for sure the "depo" is working as it should. Take care. SW RNP
