I own a Sony Vaio VPCV-RS720G desktop and it is the loudest computer I have owned. I thought it was normal when I first bought it because it was my first XP Home Edition computer. But now I know it’s not normal and my warranty is far gone. What can I do?

Change the fan. Sometimes dust gets inside the computer and fans make a lot of noise. That is the only moving part inside your pc. There is one for your cpu, one for the power supply and most of the time one for the chasis. First find out which one is making the noise. If not, the only other thing that can make a noise is your hard drive that would sound like crackling if something is wrong with it.

You can always change the fans or possibly change the hard drive as well.

THe major of the noise is coming from your fan.

Another option is to place your computer somewhere else (closet with a good vent or garage) and just run the wires to your room.

redo the whole cooling system from the powersupply fan to the cpu fan to the videocard fan ... replace them with larger or quieter models and maybe add a couple of large 120s' to the case ... and use a speed controller for the fans ... fans are cheap.

First contact Sonny. They stand by their equipment often long after the warranty has long expired. Expensive but worth it.
