Both sexes are equally slutty. The only difference is there's a senseless stigma against woman. An unfortunate sexist attitude in a male dominated society.
The real issue is in an age of AIDS there should be very little slutting going on. This particular decease is killing people. A monogamous relationship is the safest form of sex. Well abstinence is THE safest but that will make you go blind and put lots of hair on you hand.

Personally you have no leg to stand on by stating, "Why then do women not get to the same?" Referring to how men claim a need to "spread their seed" to sleep around.
Check the link below and you'll find in Canada, almost 75% of divorces are filed by women.
My personal experience is more women I know have committed adultery then the men I know. Far more!
When I was younger (I'm 44 now) women I hung around with slept with one guy after another (in the 1980's) and most of my friends and I saw a change in society taking place way back then. Now days it's even more rampant.
Most the men I know were hardly even sexually active by the time they were 18. Most the women I've talked to over the years (all being around my age) said they lost their virginity when they were 16... To guys who were 18, 19 or older. (Note the increase on perverts sexually molesting young girls now days.) But the difference is now many young girls lose their virginity at the age of 14-15.
On average, the gals I knew in the 80's said they had sex with 5-6 guys by the time they were 20. Male friends had slept with 2 or 3 gals by the time they were 20.
By the time I was 20 women my age (and younger) were hitting on me all the time and if we didn't have sex on the first or second date, I'd find out they slept with someone else behind my back before a third date ever happened!
Granted, this is just in the circle of people I knew way back then. But since then many women I've known over the years have told me more saucy stories about their "sexual adventures" when they were younger... Shocking to say the least.
Now days the common norm is to avoid "doing guys that will just screw me over" and do it with their female friends.

Because it's a natural fact that a woman produces only 1 egg a month but a man can "spread" 500,000 sperm in a few hours before he's biologically ready to go again. It's just the way it is. Nature doesn't give a hang about what's fair and equal.
Men have testosterone and are compelled to seek more partners. Women nurture and care.

I think it's a double standard that a man made up. Men want the cake and to eat it too. They want the fun, but they don't want to take the chance that the woman will find something better. It's the same way women feels when they know who the guy has been with except the men were always in a position to make the rules and teach us little old women how it's suppose to be.

In the days of mandatory child support , "spreading the seed" would be highly costly.
But you question really is a refection to Medieval times when males bequeathed their property (since they were the only one who could own things), to their offspring (heirs). The concept of legitimate heirs arose (children born from a married couple). Legitimate heirs could heir or claim property, illegitimate heirs had no standing. Royalty was far more critical if the queen had a child from another man it was treason, because it screwed up the lines of succession.
There is also the old Christian doctrine that marriage is a sacrament from God.

Guy's don't get away with the "spread their seed" excuse ...the world doesn't need populating anymore so that line doesn't work...
And alas, women don't "spread their eggs"...but you are right in that religion/the church did have an effect on keeping women down, subservient, and in a position where the men chose them to impregnate instead of the women getting to choose whom they wanted to father their child. One reason marriage was started was to keep track of the paternal lineage of the kids...because of course it's easy to know who the mother is...but if a woman had many sex partners, which (before DNA testing) was the father?

Men have the urge to do so more than women, I think, because it's so much more taxing for women. Obviously she can't spread her eggs, and could only suffer from it. I would hope no woman is accepting a man's "spread the seed" line! And it's not like they can, anyway, what with condom usage and that.

Everytime women and men come together in a moment on intamacy (sexual) they are sharing a deep emotional connection. This is one of the reasons women can't go from partner to partner without serious damage done to their selfesteem and psyche.
Second of all, men shouldn't do this either. Sexual promiscuity is not okay, regardless of religion. If you have any doubts about this, look at the results of promiscuity.
STDS
ABORTION
SINGLE PARENT HOMES
YOUNG GIRLS HAVING BABIES
The STDs are the main thing. Do you think these sprang up just out of the blue? No, they are the price paid for sexual liberty, the price paid for taking multiple partners.
Rather than going with the flow of the world and having more than one sex partner, decide to wait for marriage and be only with that person forever. The emotional benefits, the trust that is there, the love, the ability to be completely open and honest, makes it well worth being with one person and one person only for your whole life.

I think men can walk away from their plantings with little worry, and women get pregnant and develop feeling of protection for their little ones. With 42% of single mothers under the poverty level, that's a lot of protection to do with very little money, and the bigger the sluttish behavior the more pregnancies and the less money or even opportunity to earn more. Even with birth control, there are accidents and men who don't want responsibility. Of course there are good old STDs too. It could be women are too responsible for much sluttish behavior. At least the smart ones are.

That's actually a very good question. I think this is because guys just can't get pregnant. So, they can do whatever they want without any cares or worries. And the eggs don't really go anywhere. Just the "seeds." ha.
