I think faster than I speak or write...
One way to help is to get a hand-held tape recorder and speak into it. Don't worry about how you sound or whether or not you're speaking in complete sentences. (You can always play it back -- over and over -- and make more sense from it.) At least you get ideas down before they get lost -- or filed away -- in your brain!
There's also an exercise in a book The Artist's Way where for a specific amount of time (like 15 or 30 minutes; set an alarm clock or egg timer!) you simply write everything down as you think it without re-reading it or re-working it -- almost like "automatic writing" (don't worry about spelling or punctuation or anything that might distract you from your thoughts). It's supposed to be a great way to break "writer's block" or to stimulate creative thought. You can always read it later and extract various bits to build into more complete pieces.
Good luck!

Yes, the mind works a lot faster than we can speak, and let alone write. It makes songwriting for me almost impossible, or unless I have paper and pen nearby. The tip is, when you are writing down your feelings, and thoughts, try to recall what you were past thinking, and then try to right it down. Or, if you have a lot to write down, write down key words, then go back and try to remember exactly what it was you were thinking, then you should be able to complete the task.
