Rarely, most of them don't have the nerve to spout that trash to my face.

I live in the South....like right smack in the middle of the Bible Belt of America. I also work in an office where 98% are your classic closed minded Christians who TRUELY believe that being gay will send you straight to hell. I am not out at work but to 2 people that I trust explicitly. I feel certain that if my immediate supervisor knew...I'd lose my job because it would be a "direct reflection on the company." So I have to be careful. So I encounter homophobes daily. Although I have not yet heard anything negative I have heard enough to know what I work around.

It depends on the neighborhood I'm in, but pretty darn often. I pass without trying, so people I meet in a casual sense don't know I'm bi, because it's not like we discuss our personal lives. Since they assume I'm straight they say things around me that they probably would think twice about saying in other situations. So even if the homophobia isn't directed at me, it's present all around me.
Of course I address it when something is said, but it doesn't take away the fact that it was said in the first place. I also notice that it really is fear and uncomfortableness coming from them, and not the venomous hate-filled sermons we get here.

I actually have never experienced anyone that has made fun of me or insulted me personally for being bi, but when I used to be in a non-honors Art 1 class last year, half the kids would be making fun of gays/bis and saying they are the worst thing to happen to the world. Not exactly the most fun thing to listen to every day, but I haven't heard any homophobes since last year.

Every day. I'm surrouned by people making jokes about gays and flaunting their ignorance about as if it were something to be proud of.
I remember overhearing a very loud conversation about "fudgepackers" just the other day. There was also ofcourse many times during history class when one person in particular felt the need to downgrade every other religion as well as make nice little comments about how they were all a bunch meth heads and homos.

I hang with alot of gays, and people who are accepting of them, so not often. Outside of the internet trolls, I guess the only time I encounter it in the real world... Is when I randomly hear some airhead college kid say "that's so gay!" on their nextell as they walk to their classes. For me, there is not quicker indicator of a lack of intelligence in a person that someone who uses those three words on a regular basis.

(I am a straight 30s married white female. . .)
So I see or hear references to someone being gay or a homo as well as the erosion of the family unit due to a "gay agenda" at least several times a week in conversation between entirely heterosexual groups (at least living as straights).
I would liken it to how mortified I think a person of color would be to hear the references to blacks and crime etc. that I hear weekly as well.
My closest circles never say it in front of me because I alway correct them so they've stopped. But I still hear it at work, on the street, casually. . .
Don't know if this answers your question or not. Just my personal experience. . .

About once a week or more.
I'm not 'obviously' lesbian but often we are surrounded by comments that are derogatory.
Such is the nature of law enforcement.

Very, very, very rarely. Infact the last time I can remember having trouble with it was in high school.
