I know the federal minimum wage for regular employees is something like $5.15 and states can have their own minimum wages higher than that. Does it work the same way with tipped employees, or is it left completely up to the states? If there is a federal minimum for tipped employees, what is it and when was the last time it was increased?
Thx in advance.

There is none. You should be being paid the federal minimum wage when you are doing work other than serving customers. Normally the employer decides what the wage is for "tipped employees" and I think the ceiling is 80% of gross receipts for allocated tips. If you ever get a tip allocation on your W2, then you are probably not reporting all of your tips.

Here where I live, they count the tips toward salary.. Every employee MUST make minimum wage but they use the tips toward that.. For instance, u work for $3.00 an hour.. u average $3.00 in tips. per hour. u make minimum wage.. If u don't get enough tips to pay at least minimum wage, the employer is supposed to give u the rest.. I think that sucks.. Why should an employee whos friendly and helpful make the same as someone who is snotty and doesn't do their job..It's not right.. The govt should also do something about that.. I have been so many places in my life that people are so snotty but it doesn't matter because they will make the EXACT same as a person who is friendly. I have been working on and off for 20 years and to my knowledge it's always been that way..

WHAT minimum wage?!!! Some servers make 2.75 an hour (minus the scrawny/nonexistent "tips" some diners leave). As for the increase, how can there be an increase to something that doesn't exist? 0+0=0
