People who only make minimum wage I am sure think this is a great idea, I am sure. HELLO!!!!! In case no one else is smart enough to get this, by raising the price of minimum wage, you in turn raise the price of everything else. Thanks Dems. in Congress, you have made the dollar worth even less.

Someone said that the minimum wage people are happy because they will be able to make a living now. Well, hate to be the one to inform you, but if minimum wage goes up, so does the cost of EVERYTHING ELSE!!!! People see that you can afford more, so they get their money by charging more. Common sense. Oh, and for those who don't know, it is going up by $2. Minimum wage is now $7.25 over the next 26 months.

I can't see how people live on feeding a family of 4 or 5 with minimum wage, but they chose that. They didn't have to have children without being able to afford them. They will still be at that status because with the raise of minimum wage, milk, eggs, bread, etc. will go up because of it. It will make the price of everything go up.

businesses will have to raise prices to compensesate for the min wage increase those of us who make more than min wage will have to pay more, then the people we work for will have to pay us more therefore we all start back where we were. it's not about making poor people rich, will still have the poor, middle class and the rich. just with prices to compensate with the change.

Why is it that no one else seems to understand that raising the minimum amount of money people are allowed to make, it will in turn raise the minimum amount that people can spend and we end up right where we were before.

Oh, and don't give me that silver spoon excuse. I worked two full time jobs, and a part time job to put myself through college. Everyone has the same oppertunity to work their a)%es off so that they can get a good education and therefore a better job. In this country, it is their own choice if they make minimum wage or a more wealthy living.

True enough....but really what can those on minimum wage do?...everything is already too pricey for them. As it stands now, most of them are on subsided something or other...food stamps, fuel assistance and what not. Raise their income level and maybe it can be subtracted on the subsidies. In any case, it will be a gradual increase over several years...not all at once.
I totally disagree with "Yeecch" above....it is a legitimate question and real thoughtout concern and you have every right to post it here on Yahoo Q/A. It does affect everyone here. So thumbs up for your question.

Here I will say this for those that disagree with you. The minimum wage will increase by 70 cents an hour. $1456 dollars a year. We will say you have 10 employees. The wage increase has just now cost you $14560 a year, but wait next year it is an additional $14560 and the same with the year after that. For every employee you pay into their social security fund around 7.5% of their wages, they pay the other 7.5%, this and the cost of workers compensation are based on a persons wages. So we will say around $18,000 per year more in expenditures for every ten minimum wage employees. The employer has to recoup his costs somewhere. Where would that be? In the price of his goods, that rights. So now the man or woman that was already making more than minimum wage, if they don't get the same increase, their dollar buys less. Now what about the people who were also getting food assistance. They are now making more than they can make legally and retain their food subsidy. Do we also raise the wage allowed to get this food subsidy?

I don't see how the Dems have made the dollar even less then what it already was! The wonderful George W. Bush, has us in so much debt to China, that the value of dollar will soon become as useless as a Confederate Note!
As for being against he minimum wage, that is just stupid, a study by the Fiscal policy institute determined that states that raised the wage, actually, had an increase in the amount of business' that were starting. So don't, cycle off this, Milton Friedman BS about not having one. If you are against the increase, you are, really against the sancity of human life.

I've read that minimum wage is at the lowest in history (inflation adjusted). And they've done research and apparently a great amount of people apparently do actually live on minimum wage, not just college and high school students that earn the wage. Can you imagine trying to live on $7.25 an hour and feed a family of 3 or 4? I certainly can't! And I also can't imagine complaining about others being put in such a situation. It seems like the least we can do. I'd rather put my tax money into that than more military money, apparently a lot of it is put into missiles that are useless nowadays with the kind of terrorist wars we have, or more prisons, etc.

Raise the minimum wage and small businesses will simply fire some of their people and make the ones there do more work to keep their jobs.. OR they will make alot of them part time so they dont have to pay them benefits.

If that business can't keep employees or keep their business running by doing what I described then they will simply go bankrupt and all their employees will then be unemployed.

Either way you have higher unemployment and a probably higher number of uninsured people. Also you now have less tax revenue and more people drawing unemployment.

This is common sense economics people.

Your wrong frank , study the last min wage increases. Better yet talk to small bus owners

If you own your own business like I do, we get tons of write-offs, pretty much everything you have to pay for to keep your business running you can write-off at least a percentage. The only person I know that will be adversely affected be the minimum wage increase will be accountants.{By the way most small businesses pay better than the min. wage.}

Some of you really make me ill. You sit there on your fat ***'s and look down on anyone who is not as fortunate as you. Some people have to work from the bottom up you jackass's, not everyone can be born with a damn silver spoon in thier mouth. Respect everyone regardless of race, or income level or what part of town they came from. Respect every single person until they do something to lose that respect. If the rest of america followed this simple way of life our country would be a much greater place to exist. You all dont want to increase min wage because thing's will cost you a BIT more. You people are very greedy to have a mindset that the poor should just stay poor so you dont have to spend more money on a loaf of bread. UNREAL!!!!! You scrutinize people with 3-4 kid's and say they chose that lifestyle....you truely are a moron. Ever heard of a thing called nafta? Alot of hardworking american's are out of work because of it and you say they chose that lifestyle. Omg you make me sick with that statement. God help us all!!!

nonalcholic2 is the only answer so far that has any understanding of basic economics. He did miss the most obvious way to make up the extra $18,000 per 10 minimum wage employees. Fire one of them.

People deserve to make a living wage.

The minimum wage hadn't been raised in 10 fu*cking years people. Have you heard of inflation? It doesn't just affect the price of your Cadillac Escalade with the "W" sticker on it. It affects poor people too.

Are you Republicans THAT godda.mn greedy that you can't pay 8 cents more for your filet mignon so that some mother of 4 can feed her kids something other than captain crunch for dinner?

Amazing. You a$$holes complain when people collect welfare, but when congress tries to help out the poorest Americans to get them a living wage, you're against THAT too.

Maybe we should just draft everyone that makes minimum wage and send them all to Iraq to die for your pointless war. Kill two birds with one stone?
