A lack of enlightenment when it came to advances in literature, mathematics, science and technology. No new inventions or ideas came out of this period of time, roughly 800 - 1200 AD.

The Dark Ages was a period of time in which there was constant fighting between different villages. During this time the Feudal system was in place. This system consisted of a lord controling a piece of land with people living on the land and working for the lord. The lord's would send soldiers to foght other lords for land.

#2 Very Little injustice with the caste system if you got in trouble with the higher class, you were their dogs meat.
#3 Kings and Queens would not make up their minds and as one died the next changed the official religion to maybe Catholicism, the next protestant, that went on for a few years. And if you were a Jew that was bad if you didnt follow the right religion you were persectued ( burned @ stake)

The advent of the year 1000 was said to be the millennium. Well you remember how weird people got in 2000. Think of it back then. So they stopped learning. Why learn? We are all going to die, for the same reason, why write, why read, why paint. So, basically they sat around waiting for the world to end. !00 years or so, later they figured out it was not happening so they had themselves a renaissance.

No significant sceintific progress was made during this time in Europe including a massive shortage of any type of literature and historical documents.

The cause was the feudal system mostly.

they were considerd dark due to the split int eh roman catholic church, the loss of much knowledge and the lack of systematic scholarly learning. think of waht wetn before: the great philosophers the expansion of the christianity and the knowledge attached to it ( remember at the time the church was the protector of knowledge) and waht came after: the rise of monarchy and the focus and centralization of knowledege which led to the renaissance and reformation

Much knowledge was lost when the roman empire fell, and with in the conforts of that civilazation, add to that constant wars, fuedal kingdoms, and the great black plague epidemic, and if you lived then, your spirit was dark.

the 'dark' ages were named that by the historians of the 'enlightenment'. historically, nothing stands out in this time as being particularly more or less deficient than previous eras.

really any written information that comes
from that era.
