I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my second. Yesterday, I noticed a snotty mucus on my undies resembling a gob of rubber cement. (Sorry so graphic!). Well today, I went to the doctor and she examined me and said the tip of my cervix is dilated a bit. A few hours after the doctor I noticed another chunk of mucus. I'm guessing this is my mucus plug. What happends next? I've heard I could go in to labor tonight, tomarow, a month, ect. Did anyone loose their mucus plug on their own? What happend over the next few hours?

With my first I was already in pretty good labor pattern, and she was born about 7 hours later. With my second he was not born for maybe 2 weeks afterwards-but with him I had pre-term labor several times that was stopped(ended up beign 2 weeks late altogether lol)

Well it does sound like your mucus plug, I lost mine at the same time my water broke. I hear though that it could be several days though until you go into labor. But the good thing is that you are progressing and the baby will soon be here. Walk alot or have sex if you are anxious to see your little one. Although you really need to wait one more week to be full term, and get plenty of sleep you need rest for delivery.

I lost my mucus plug, and ended up being induced three weeks later. I was dialating, but my cervix wasn't effacing as rapidly. I was dialated to 5 when I went for my regular appointment! My water never broke on it's own, they did it at the hospital. My Dr. told me that it was not a sign that labor was on it's way, just that things are moving in the right direction.

I lost my plug 2 weeks before I delivered. I have a dynamic cervix and its also incompetent so there were times my cervix wasn't even measurable on ultrasound {which I had weekly along with 12 weeks of bed rest} I had my son just shy of 36 weeks and he was perfectly fine.

How exciting, this could be your time! Just take it easy and don't make any engagements for a while. You're body is starting to get ready for labour and it could start any second, especially if you're already dilating. It is strange that you don't have contractions yet, but your doctor knows best. It would be very nice to go through labour without contractions, I can tell you!
