your question is far to opened ended. as to a genius one would really have to be specific to a field of expertise that the individual was especially brilliant in. Say in the arts, one could choose anyone from salvador dali to picasso to francis bacon. In film orson welles perhaps had qualities of genius in his vision, in music definitely john lennon had some special quality that made almost evrything he ever wrote (song) as being almost a work of creative genius. All these individuals though had poor qualities of character and moods like anyone else. Even acts of extreme insanity could perhaps be given a status of genius for there crazed perfect design. Who would challenge that the writer Fydor Dostoyevsky was not alight with some qualities of genius in his writing. This does not even touch on the areas of mathematics, science and languages.

You'd have to wait another 50 years to get the answer to that. It's based upon what accimplishments really last. What accomplishments lead us into the next stage of our collective development. Some who are called genius today are just popular but their impact will fade. Most of the true geniuses in history recieve no recognition until they are dead or are nearing death.

Like most of ur answerers, i am biased too; but i should
put forward the brilliant Sir karl Popper, who successfully
criticised and changed science and philosophy, for the good.
i know that some dont think so, but thats just too bad. At his
height of genius(Sir karl always said he knew Little!) 30 or
40 years ago, i would say that he was better than Einstein-his
hero. And if you go and read his book Conjetures and
Refutations, you might agree. Most of his works will repay
the reader generously-his critical style is informative and
enlightening; one of the 20th century's true scholars.

Probably me. Unfortunately, I'll never know. Most people are only recognised as a genius after death. Shame about that.
