If there was a channel that was called White Entertainment TV and only showed shows with all white people, etc., would it be considered racist? Likewise, if there was a "White History Month" would there be an uproar? I would hope not, but part of me thinks there would be.

I'm not racist, but think sometimes political correctness has gotten out of hand and that at times in the world there is reverse discrimination in the name of equality.

Again, I could care less either way, just wanted to some honest opinions out there. Thanks.

It's frustrating that people would call be prejudice or racist for even asking a question like this. I haven't a racist bone in my body. Growing up race wasn't even discussed and I had friends from all races. Later I spent a lot of time in Asia and people actually called me a wanna-be Asian; I also have many family members who are either adopted or married into my family of other races.

As far as Viacom owning BET, who cares who owns it. And saying that all other channels are white is rediculous; it's just because there haven't been any good shows based on African American people since the Cosbys (maybe pushing that a little). There's the CW channel that has some shows, but we don't need to call it the diverse channel.

I just think all people should be judged based on their individual accountability and success. This is the same thing ol' Cosby teaches and I'm sure you'd hear from Powell and others. Having pride in your culture is awesome and should be maintained, but...

Many of the Black (African American) organizations were legitimately started because blacks had been and were being taken advantage of and discriminated against. Now that is no longer true, but it will take a long, long time for these organizations to fade away. Because once power, priviledge, and advantage is attained, most people don't want to give it up. However, in time they will probably cease to exist. By the way, most immigrants to the US started organizations to help support their ethnic-fellow men & women. Hispanic, Polish, Jewish, etc.

You say that you are not racist but you are prejudiced.I don't see why it is even a question.Like everyone above has said basically everything on TV is all white anyway. There is no need for a white entertainment show. And for you information MTV did not always include black videos. It's only been maybe about 20 years since they have. Also, NAACP were all created to make sure that black people are treated fairly in this unjust society.BET was created to represent black people in the media. And you are forgetting one thing. All of these programs were created back when black people weren't seen on tv or weren't allowed to go to white colleges. And something had to be done to try to fix this unjust that was put on us.As far as history every month but February is white history month. And you know it stills seem that the only time that minorities are included in history is during their month. So if you want something done or to fix this then stop being prejudiced and help others to stop being prejudiced/racist.

A majority of the TV channels out there are definitely white. And, BET is owned by Viacom. Same rich white folks who own MTV, Vh1, Nickelodeon, and many of the other popular cable channels. So, you should make this argument towards them. Because all hey are doing is capitolizing off hip hop culture.

As far as white history month... white is the standard for EVERYTHING in this country. US history is white history. You hear about white people all day every day. But, because there is a black history month where you learn about the same black people over and over again, its a problem?

Without black history month would you know anything about black people, or any other culture if it weren't shown on the news? Probably not.

I hear the sound of babies crying...............don't you? Waa waaa. And no, we don't have everyother month besides february. Do they hype up press or make you write reports about white people in history. I mean, Ok, this is white history month.....again.......today we are gonna write about someone white, in history that was great and white smart and did I mention white? Take a good long look at the "Black history month" Why isn't there a month for any other race that happens to be (dare I say it) even MORE of a minority than the black community. Is there a saying that we are gonna take a break from celebrating our whiteness and have a black history month? I say if there is gonna be a black history month, then there needs to be a month for everyone else. This is america and every kind of person from every part of the world lives here. Everyone should get a friggin month. Swap off, the black people get february this year, the asians get it next year..........

Every single channel on the tube is already called White Entertainment TV. How could there be an uproar when this is part of our everyday life as soon as your TV greets you.

BET (Black Entertainment Television) Is the only station dedicated to Black people. This is the only time you will see black people starring in all of the Major Brand Commercials of hair products, fast food restaurants ect...

I do however, understand where you are coming from in regards to Political Correctness.

If you could appear black for one day and see and feel the difference of treatment being in a different skin, you would feel really happy that you were already born white. You don't have to go through the same hardship.

I could go on for hours, however if the world saw black people on the tube as consistently strong as we see white people daily - It would only occur at that point that there would be an uproar.

Imagine if you saw a black Jesus all the time, You would probably feel deeply offended. Yet black people must accept this all the time without a question.

Much love to you...I know that you are not racist; however, when dealing with Political Correctness select other issues and topics not a race of people. In the end we all come from the same human race.

If you didn't know you could have researched this yourself but I'm going to tell you anyway BET is owned and operated by Viacom(White people) the same company that owns VH1, MTV, Nick, CBS, etc. and there is a White Persons College Fund and white people have every other month to celebrate their history whatever that may be. And as matter of fact if white people had their own title to every thing like 'WET' for example it wouldn't even be racist there's a WHITE Rapper Show and know one is calling that racist so you should really get your facts straight.

Like you, I couldn't care either way, but if there was a white entertainment channel, white history month, quota for white people being hired, then whites would be called racists.
I've met many more blacks and latinos who are racists than white racists. Kind of funny in a weird way. And if I get called white by blacks, then I can call them blacks. I dated an "african american" lady a few years ago and no one in her family had been to Africa in over 250 years! Besides, Africa's a continent. I don't call myself a European-AustraAsian whatever. Lol!!
We're one race: Human Race :)

There is, it's called 'TV, circa 1960'.
How many nonwhite people are on TV shows? Start counting, compared to whites the number is comparatively small. Many of the nonwhite characters are typecast, or put into 'token' positions, there for appearance's sake alone. It's ridiculous. I don't go for political correctness, but do you seriously think that there would be that many minority characters on TV if people hadn't gotten complained about it? Nope, probably just entertainment in the 'Leave it to Beaver' and 'Gilligan's Island' lily-white tradition. Nobody needs their own TV channel, month, day, whatever. If we treated each other like equals, it wouldn't matter, but it's not a perfect world. I hear your point, and consider it, but disagree with the confrontional manner in which it was put. That's all I have to say about that. Peace.

E! News network?
just kidding i get your point and i agree pc affirmative action have gone too far at times and in fact it WAS sadly a needed thing at one time!...the sad thing after all this time is that it still a flashpoint of anger for people who feel that they have been slighted by society in favor of someone who was given a favor
and basically feeding into our minds that there is a "special" group that deserves "special" breaks it perpetuates racism
Special financing for Black families and downpayment assistance in a town where i live (in 1998 at least i don't know if this is continuing)
the cities who hire 1-2 black people for the "quota" you think the black people don't see that?
special points on the civil service test? priority in college entry
i need some of that united caucasian college fund ...sound strange doesn't it? we all need a break as Americans!!!

Yes you are a racist. I doubt you are the violent type but you are demonstrating willful ignorance right now with this question.

BET and black history month are affirmative action programs.
Black American (and especially African) history was intentionally destroyed and restricted for hundreds of years.
Non-white citizens were openly considered second class citizens less than 40 years ago. Do you have any idea the per capita inequity of populace to positions of power? Positions of power such as, judges, lawyers, politicians, heads of corporations, etc.... Yes this inequity is the result of slavery, followed by second class citizenship followed by the lingering racism and willfull ignorance that exists today.

Granted the current PC atmosphere will likely balance out our country given another 200 years plus. Affirmative action is an attempt to reduce that 200 years to a single lifetime.
It's an experiment and very justified.

It would be just plain ignorant to think that the threat of lynching does not still exist (particularly in the midwest) and that a black person with an inner city dialect has diminished opportunity for the reason of skin complexion alone.

Get with the program dude.
Read a book once in a while. Actually in my opinion it takes like 3 to 5 books on any given subject to form an educated opinion.
Uncle Terry doesn't nessecarily know it all.
