I have never known of anyone on pot committing a violent act. It's amazing that they can even get off the couch. But often people who have murdered and raped people say they had been smoking pot, or doing crack etc. do you think the drugs were a factor or just an excuse? Are there statistics about this?

Addiction is about handling emotions. So really, it's the emotional problems that lead to addiction.

Now, you don't need to be an addict to be violent. Alot of people are violent and had nothing but alcohol. Some alcoholics are violent, others aren't.

The only factor I can think of is that judgement is impaired with the use of alcohol or other drugs, and they somehow reason in this state that their actions are somehow justified.

I'm of the school of thought that if you can decide not to drink and drive, you can also decide not to drink and fight.

Now, I don't have any stats to back it up.

But I do know of my ex's brother, who used to come to our parties and tell us,"You guys are way cooler than my friends. All my friends talk about (while drinking) is stealing stuff."

So there is a peer element at work here, too.

But generally, yeah, I think it's "cuz I wuz high" is just an excuse, really.

I think some drugs make you violent, alcohol being one of the worst. Pot tends to make you mellow and a little hungry and sleepy, so a person using only pot is far less likely to commit a violent crime than a person using only alcohol.

The statistics are quite clear about the connection between alcohol and violence. I believe there is also a connection between the harder drugs and violence. However, another factor is the personality of the individual. We have all known "happy drunks" and we have all known "angry drunks". So sometimes it is as much the person as the drug, or the interaction between the drug and the person. I don't think there is a simple answer to your question.

Yeah, that's just an excuse. I don't think anyone is going to smoke pot and then jump up and rape or kill anyone--that is, unless they are smoking it laced with something or with a crack, meth, angel dust, booze, etc. chaser. Any of that hard stuff can make you do things you would not do clean. Also, it depends your normal disposition and pinchant for violence, and on how long you've been abusing. Drugs kill brain cells. I know someone who did LSD a few times and it fried her brain. She's never killed anyone but she has done all sorts of other crazy acts, like trying to steal a neighbor's car and walking into someone house, opening a kitchen cabinet and helping herself to a pack of cigarettes. Plus, pot can lead to harder stuff. After you've smoked it for awhile, it takes more and more to get a buzz on, and some people turn to other stuff for that kick.

I'm sure that in some acts of crime drugs were a factor. I don't think there would be any with pot but I know there are a lot of crimes committed when a person is on meth. I don't know any statistics though but I don't think that being on drugs is an excuse for any crime committed. They chose to do the drug.

Drugs affect different people in different ways...In my opinion, the only thing a little weed is gonna do is make you tired and hungry. Now amphetamines (coke, crank, etc.) drugs suck as these, interfere with the levels of dopamine and other chemicals and hormones that regulate your emotions...so yeah they can potentially cause someone to be violent who wouldnt normally act that way.

Many drugs disinhibit emotions and behavior. THere is plenty of evidence. Try the database medline, use keywords aggression and (whatever drug you are interested in).

Our minds do not paintings the same as a baby's might want to. nicely it shouldn't. they are better influential, and naive. we are previous adequate now to have our own reviews on the international. for example, countless little ones believe in Santa, because WE informed them it changed into real. it is the same for hip-hop song (not all hip-hop song). it is even the same for racism. little ones are mainly indoctrinated into believing it with information from their dad and mom, or to that end, rappers. All this being suggested I nonetheless take exhilaration in hip-hop song & i believe that folk ought to take duty for his or her own movements and not in any respect blame it on song.
