First of all, as a client of Cingular and formerly of Verizon, Sprint and the original AT&T wireless, you should be very happy with the service if you come over to Cingular. SIM cards are of the utmost importance, that is what runs Cingular and T-Mobile. Unlocking has a dicey history, as I have heard and seen people that have had an unlocked phone, not everything is guaranteed to work, such as your browser if you were to try and use it on T-Mobile. If your contract is up with Sprint, just make sure not to make any changes to your account between now and June and it will remain without contract, port your number over to Cingular (the new name will actually be AT&T wireless then) and you are set. I have used the big three, each for over six months and will promise you that the least of my issues ever came from Cingular. Apple, as one report said, doesn't always work well with partnerships, but this looks as if this is one where they are really allowed to navigate the course, which is why the phone looks top-notch. I truly hope that it has an excellent signal, the rest I expect to work well...

It is definitely a Cingular only phone. Cingular operates on a GSM network and if you got the phone unlocked it would still work only on other GSM networks. (like t-mobile, alltell, etc.) Unfortunately Sprint does not operate on a GSM network. The phone is scheduled to debut in June 2007 so you have a bit of a wait. If you want to get the phone (which would require a cingular contract) I suggest that you stay on with Sprint on a month-to-month basis (do not renew your contract) until the phone makes its debut. If you're only interested in its internet capabilities I assure you that there are other phones with WIFi that cost much less and are 3G capable which the iPhone is not.

Switch to Cingular Now! get a free phone with a good plan later upgrade to iPhone which comes out in June for 499 4gb and 599 8gb.and it does do internet well like when your connect to wifi you switch from network to wifi and you can excpect great accesories like the ones for ipod(it uses the same dock connector).Sprint is lousy plan and has lousy phones. the iphone does everything from the itunes store so movies and tvshows music ect. you won't be disappointed and it does do cool internet like google maps. It IS a cingular phone olny it Apple has an exclusive partnership with ATT&T. and if you buy it without the phone part like not sign up for a plan thats fine it still works like an ipod and has wifi so you can use the internet at wifi spots if you get a plan it always has internet.so it will do widgets, music, podcasts, movies,tv shows, music videos, ect.

Considering the fact that your plan just ended, I would say go for it. I know I would if I was in you situation, unless your short on cash. THe cheapest iphone costs $500, which may be expensive for a phone, but thats just it, its not only a phone. I think of it as a camera, a cell phone, a video player, and ipod all combined into one small thing. And its touch screen which is cool too. Anyway, all those things would probably cost more if you bought them separately. A new ipod, which does video and music, and a blackberry, which has phone and internet, would cost around $700 to $800. Hope this helps

just switch over to cingular.. they are great and i have never had a problem with coverage.. and the iPhone is goin to be the greatest phone to hit the market.. i was looking through how it interects and the overall funcionality of it and its just brilliant.. apple uses simple ideas that are so basic in principle yet so revolutionary at the same time..its worth the 500-600 dollars too.. it come with a video version of the ipod.. so it has the same amount of memory as a nano but with the features of teh full iPod.. the size should rest roughly inbetween the two.. a little closer to the nano though.. the product described is atleast 300 bucks.. so now you are left over for a 200 kick *ss phone with a 2mp camerea and Mac OSx

The phone will be released in June of 07 and Cingular will be its sole carrier at first. However, that may change later. (Like the Rzr) And I doubt you can get it just for its internet.

Why not get it and go with Cingular?
Otherwise, it's kind of a waste to have the all-in-one machine, and then still carry around the others.

apple is just selling their phone to cingular. but its still a sim card phone.. just unlock the phone and then you can use any sim card you want. unfortunately.. you won't be able to use it because sprint doesn't have sim cards. So i guess you'll hve to change carriers to be able to use the iphone.
