We had a powersurge at my house a few day's ago, stormy day. When I got home, my brother had removed the light switch in this room, claiming it was 'broken. I checked it, it's not even burned! Could it be damaged, or is just likely that he's a bit retarded?

Yes a light switch can break. Just please be careful when you flick the switch because it can and will send out sparks at you. When replacing it, turn off the main breaker to the room it is in, and follow the way you take the old one out when putting the new one in. It is that easy.

Yes they can. The switch can go out, break on the inside, or even burn up like you've said. Best of luck to you.

It's entirely possible that it's no good, but it's also possible that your brother is an idiot. Check the switch with a continuity tester, no idea how to check your brother.
